Hallmarks help establish purity, maker, date, and assay office. Weight and current silver buying rates matter for straightforward metal value. Maker, age, condition, design, completeness, and original cases can make some pieces worth more than their metal content.
Weighted candlesticks, knives, brushes, and similar objects may contain non-silver material, so their total weight is not the same as their silver weight.
