What Affects Value
For straightforward precious-metal items, the main factors are purity, weight, and the buying rate at the time of assessment. Hallmarks help identify purity, but unmarked pieces can still be checked.
We also look for value beyond the metal. A wearable piece, known maker, collectable coin, unusual design, or valuable stone may be worth assessing individually rather than as scrap.

Do not clean, repair, or remove stones before asking. If you have scales, an approximate weight is useful but not required.
